A government agency

The Royal Armoury is a state museum located at the Stockholm Royal Palace. Until 31 December 2017 The Royal Armoury, together with Skokloster Castle and the Hallwyl Museum, constitute a government agency; The Royal Armoury and Skokloster Castle with the Hallwyl Museum Foundation (LSH).
From 1 January 2018 LSH museums merge with the National Historical Museums (SHM) and become one government agency.

The National Historical Museums’ mission is to promote knowledge of and interest in Sweden’s history combined with preserving and developing the cultural heritage that the agency administers. Our operations are to be a matter of interest for everyone in society.

The agency includes the Royal Armoury, Skokloster Castle, the Hallwyl Museum, the Swedish History Museum and the Royal Coin Cabinet plus the museum operations at Tumba Papermill Museum. The agency is also responsible for the contract archaeology service known as The Archaeologists.

The government agency is accountable to the Ministry of Culture. The museums base their work on a national cultural policy resolution enacted by the Swedish Parliament.
