In the family exhibition, the visitor was confronted with the unexpected. Through a collection of strange, exciting and fun objects, the visitor encountered stories about people and their perceptions of the world that are rarely seen in ordinary history books.

Mechanical arms and unicorn horns

As early as the 16th century, prostheses were manufactured to replace lost body parts. The number of amputations increased as firearms became more common. The unknown man who used this prosthesis in the early 17th century was right-handed and wanted to be able to continue fencing. There is a specially made sword mount for the arm!

Collections

As Europeans started traveling more and further, it became fashionable for the rich and for scientists to collect unusual items from other parts of the world. It could be anything from stuffed animals to tusks and horns. It was not easy to know what the animals really looked like, or if they even really existed. Many people thought they had unicorn horns at home, but often it was tusks from narwhals. This incredible unicorn horn is not a tooth but a penis bone from a whale.

Is it true?

The ways of thinking and acting in past times can surprise and amaze us and sometimes seem horrible. But at the same time, there is a lot we can recognize. The visitor to this exhibition got to discover incredible differences and incredibly similarities to other times. And do you know what the best thing is? Everything is true.
