In the vaulted cellar of the Palace

The Royal Armoury is located in the south-eastern corner of the Royal Palace, with an entrance from Slottsbacken. It is an independent museum and therefore has no link with the Palace’s other museums. The museums have different entrances and tickets.

One of Sweden’s oldest museums

The Royal Armoury is one of Sweden’s oldest museums. Initially, the museum was a storage room for the Swedish royal family’s costumes, arms and armour. In 1885 it became a museum open to the public. The museum has had its recidence in the Royal Palace since 1978

In the Royal Armoury, you can study Sweden’s royal history from the last 500 years. See the stuffed horse Streiff, Karl XII’s muddy blue uniform from 1718, Queen Sofia Magdalena’s spectacular wedding dress from 1766 and Gustav III’s clothes from the masquerade ball in 1792, and much more besides.

How to Get Here

The museum is located on Slottsbacken in the eastern part of the Stockholm Palace.

Admission and Tickets
