Renaissance fashion in paper – The Medici family outside the frame
An enchanted world of paper! The Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave works with hand painted clothes made from paper, connected to history and fashion. She has exhibited over the world for more than two decades. The Royal Armoury showed her work for the first time in Sweden and the Nordic region.
The paper costumes showed the glamour of the Florentine renaissance court. As the historical costumes are not preserved, art works and portraits have been the inspiration for Isabelle de Borchgrave. She has created things we cannot see in the portraits, the backs of costumes and magnificent hairdos. In the exhibition the Medici family steped outside the frames of the portraits that immortalises them – they are given forms and bodies.
